About the piece
Für Elise is a short piano piece by Ludwig van Beethoven, catalogued as WoO 59 (Bagatelle in A minor). It was published in 1867, decades after Beethoven's death. Here you play the famous opening of the right-hand melody.
What makes it a little harder
The opening rocks between E and D sharp, the black key just below E. The melody then uses notes across more than an octave, and in the real piece the left hand plays broken chords between the right-hand phrases. This page gives you the right-hand melody only.
How to practise
Practise the first five notes, E D♯ E D♯ E, until they flow evenly; use fingers 4 and 3 or 2 and 3, whichever feels easier. Then add B D C A. Play slowly. Speed comes later, once your fingers know the way.
